Linda Burney, Member for Barton joined Bayside Mayor Bill Saravinovski and local families on Thursday to celebrate NAIDOC Week at a Family Fun Day.
Ms Burney, who is also Minister for Indigenous Australians launched the event, alongside Indigenous dance company the Gamay Dancers.
Children from Hillsdale Childcare Centre acknowledged Bidjigal country, which they do together and the beginning of each day.
The Family Fun Day was hosted by Bayside Council at Dharaggang Park in Wolli Creek.
The park recognises the four local clans who have lived around the Cooks River – the Darug, Bidjigal, Gameygal, and Cadigal peoples. It features a mural entitled ‘Reflections’, created by Indigenous artists Maddison Gibbs and Jason Wing.
